Vivette's Dance Studio January Newsletter
1. STATEMENTS: attached to this newsletter is the current statement for your account from September to
Jan.
December late fees were posted Dec 27th, giving you a Christmas gift of an extra week to pay.
Tuition is due the 1st class of each month, late fees are normally posted on the 15th of the month.
Please remember that your tuition payments are my “paycheck” out of which I pay employees, building
mortgage, utilities, and all the other costs of doing business. It’s difficult to meet these expenses when tuition
payments are not made on time. I had 35 unpaid December invoices. You count on your paycheck, so do I.
All credits from costumes, cookie dough etc were moved to the December pocket if possible.
2. COSTUMES: The costume book will be available in the lobby for parents to see my choices. Your costume
package will come with accessories and tights.
A few costumes startled me by coming in early. Some lines have sent partial shipments like all the mediums but
nothing else. I still need to go through each one and make sure all have all the parts. We will probably try on
the ones I have received to check for sizing so that exchanges may be made if necessary. I rarely have to
make exchanges.
Some costumes went clearance after I ordered so the companies sent what they had, like larges instead of
mediums, etc. We’ll have to do alterations on a few of these, but no panic-ing if you don’t sew, between myself,
Miss Anna and my daughter we’ll get it taken care of.
No costumes will be sent home unless they are paid in full. I’m sorry to be this way, but I’ve been burned too
many times by being nice about it.
Older dancers will receive a detail sheet of costume actual costs so that parents won’t have any questions. I
got this done early this year, last year it was April! Yay me! Part of what I spent the break doing.
3. MAC N CHEESE DONATION: We collected 45 boxes of Mac n Cheese for the Food Bank. They were
grateful for the gift.
4. NEW DANCES: Our younger dancers will begin working on our new dances for the 37th recital “ iDance!”
this week. I spent part of the break finalizing my music choices, and choreographing these dances. I can’t wait
to get started teaching them! As I have time, I will make a practice CD for the dancers with their music on it. As
I get these done a $2.00 charge will be place in your misc account. This takes a great deal of my time,
especially this year with technology problems so please be patient.
Our recital t-shirts for are being designed. What will they look like? Shhh it’s a secret. Everyone gets a free
recital t-shirt, no need to order, but we will ask you to check the size we’ve chosen for your dancer and to okay
the spelling of your dancers name. These lists will go up on the windows in Feb or March.
5. WINTER WEATHER: The one snowstorm we’ve had came when we were closed for winter break but
remember that the weather is very unpredictable. Remember to check www.Ksalink.com , and the Vivette’s
Dance Studio Fan Page on Facebook for closings situations. If I am at home, I can post cancellations on the
studio website. I always call Salina Media Group (Ksal, etc). I will also send out emails.
6. Sad News: On Tuesday, Dec. 20th, Elizabeth Sauer lost her battle with cancer and gained her angel wings.
Elizabeth was the mother of dancer Jenessa Henderson. Jenessa has gone to California to live with an aunt.
We will miss the bright smiles of both of them in the studio.
7. EMAIL address: I have noticed several email address bouncing back to me. If you are not receiving our
emails, have changed addresses or something please email me at Vivettesdance@hotmail.com so that I can
add you to the group listing, or fill out a “Memo Me” page. If you do not have an email address please tell the
desk so that we can add you to our no email list.
8. STARFEET COMPETITION TEAMS
For the month of January we will shorten Sat technique class to 30 minutes, so that we may concentrate on the
large group for a full hour of rehearsal.
Technique 9:00-9:30
Devil 9:30-10:30
The rest of the schedule is unchanged.
Starfeet costumes have all been posted to your account. If you had a credit from costumes or cookie dough I
applied it to that category.
As we finish solo’s we will begin performing at care homes.
I’ll be sending home our competition schedule soon.
9. Performances -
Saturday Jan 7th, we will perform at Drury Place at 4:00. Bitty, Pre K, K combo, P 1 and P2 will perform their
Holiday dances.
Hayley W has finished her solo and may perform it.
10. HOLIDAY BOWL: Our dancers and their families had a great time at the Holiday Bowl performance. It was
a great game and it seems as if there were few mishaps. The half-time was not televised (a pet peeve of mine),
and I just saw a glimpse of them at the very beginning of the parade coverage, but Chelle said that all enjoyed
watching the game from the front row of seating. Tori Happel’s luggage was lost and Miss Anna and Katie broke
down in LA and limped home with a bad transmission but otherwise all was fun. This was the 6th Bowl Game
performance that Chelle has orchestrated!
11. We have a few new dancers joining our dance family for the remainder of the season, let’s make them feel
welcome!
12. CONGRATULATIONS TO SARAH FRAZIER!
She has completed her 50 hours as a teaching assistant, and is qualified to both substitute teach and to teach
a class.
Our TA’s volunteer 25 hours working with one of the teachers to qualify to substitute and 50 hours to qualify to
teach a class. This years TA’s are Shelley Beasely who got her 50 hour certificate last year, Sarah Frazier,
Abby Frazier and Katie Stanley-Lorson. They demonstrate class work, tie shoes, help dancers with corrections,
and generally help the teachers to teach! It takes a lot of dedication to volunteer this many hours in the studio.
13. DANCE - BOOTY SHORTS -
I received a new shipment of shorts during the break. I noticed some of our dancers were outgrowing theirs. If
you wish to sell yours, just pin a tag with your dancers name and the price on them and put on the lobby table
with the new ones. If we don’t have the size you need, leave a note and I’ll keep that in mind when I reorder.
Quite a few costume costs were kept low by purchasing tops and using these uniform shorts as part of the
costume. Bonus!
WISHING ALL OF OUR DANCERS FAMILIES A HAPPY NEW YEAR.
DANCING INTO 2012!
