December 1, 2011 Newsletter
1. STATEMENTS: Attached to this newsletter is a statement containing charges from September through
December.
2. HOLIDAY CLOSINGS:
We hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving vacation. Miss V visited her family in Omaha, Miss Chelle and
Miss Rachel also visited with family.
2A. WINTER BREAK: WE normally follow the USD 305 schedule, but this year they are not breaking until
Thur the 22nd. Last year the 22nd fell on Wed and we closed the Mon and Tue classes at the request of
parents due to the large number of school conflicts with concerts, etc. I am seeing a basket ball game on
Mon the 19th, and South High Vocal Concert on Tue the 20th , and Finals on Wed the 21st as potential
conflicts at this time.
If your dancer attends class on Mon, Tue, or Wed, I would appreciate your feedback. If 50% of the classes
will be missing those evenings, we’d be better off to close and let dancers study for finals and attend
concerts. There will be forms on the lobby table to fill out and drop in the response box, one also on back of
this newsletter.
My personal preference would be to close Dec 19 to Jan 1, restarting classes on Mon Jan 2 (yes, I know
there is no school that day).
2B. Winter Closings:
A reminder that if USD 305 closes for WEATHER we close; we do not close for teacher in-service, or
conferences.
I will make other decisions on a case by case basis, using radio, and email to make the announcements.
Calls to the studio will call forward to my cell phone. There is a list on the lobby table to fill out if you do not
have email!
We generally do not close for weather unless it’s very, very icy. I do appreciate calls from my out-of- town
students as some classes are small and if there is only one dancer left who is going to attend I might call that
mom and say “Stay home and be warm today”.

3. GIVING BACK:
We are collecting Mac n Cheese for the Emergency Food Bank during the month of December. Please
remember to toss an extra box or two into your cart when you shop.
Your dancer may put their name on an “ornament” on the tree for each box donated.
4. CHRISTMAS DANCES
Among the other work we are doing we are learning:
Bitties : I Love You Santa Claus
PreK :I want to get a Teddy Bear for Christmas, and Here Comes Santa Claus
Beginner: Holly Jolly Christmas and I’ll Be A Little Angel
Primary 1: Up on the Housetop, Frosty the Snowman
Primary 2: Sugar Plum Fairy Ballet
5. Fundraiser: Cookie dough forms and money are due in no later than Sat. Dec, 3rd by 1pm. No late
orders will be accepted. I will spend Sunday putting the order together and overnight it on Monday am, to
ensure rapid delivery of ordered products. As always, it’s a fundraiser for our dancers families, to help them
with costume and tuition fees.
6. COSTUME FEES
A reminder that all costume fees must be paid by Thursday, Dec. 22nd. I know that some “guess-ti-
mate” fees were very high, because some dancers are taking lots of classes.
I’ve already ordered 1 line of costumes, the Thurs P3 Pom for “Breakout”. I’m happy to say that I am able to
reduce the “guess-ti-mate” deposit by $13.00 from $50 to $37. This change will be reflected on your
statement this week or next week. As I work on other costumes lines I will make adjustments for them also.
If you know you are not going to need a costume because you are moving or some other reason… you
must tell me this in writing. Once ordered, it’s a real pain to cancel a costume, and usually involves a
cancellation fee by the costume provider.
Chelle Rachel and I have been working very hard on our choices and I believe that I will get all the costumes
at the budgeted price, or very close.
7. RECITAL
Bitty - Primary 1 will begin learning their recital dances in January. Primary 2 has begun learning their tap
and jazz recital dances. Older dancers have been integrating their technique with combinations from their
dances. It’s going to be a great show!
7A. I know it’s been listed in the studio policies hand out, and in newsletters, but just in case you missed it….
Our 37th annual Recital will be Saturday May 19th. at Central High School. We will have rehearsals on
Friday May 18th beginning at 5pm for littles, middles, and Starfeet.
Middle, High School and Adult dancers will have an on stage rehearsal on Monday Mon 14th from 6:30-
9pm. These dancers will be asked to assist at the Friday rehearsal.
We hope to again do our Nursing Home “Tour” the next to last week of classes.
We will have 2 shows, 1 at 1:00, 1 at 4:00. We will attempt to place siblings in the same show but no
guarantees. Most older dancers will appear in both shows, as most are in many dances. Requests for
specific placement in specific shows are impossible to honor. I will not be working on show order until Jan.
8. BUILDING RENTAL.
The Studio is available to rent in our off hours (especially Sundays) for meetings, birthday parties, reunions,
etc. Rental price is $10.00 per hour. We have tables and chairs, but for a really large group you’d need to
bring in your own chairs. You may bring in food, (Lobby only!) but you must clean up after yourself.
9. STARFEET
Team parents and dancers were asked to return forms with competition conflicts and preferences last week.
I’m still waiting on a number of dancers response forms. Please ask the desk to make a copy for you and
return to me as soon as possible. Decisions must be made.
Dances are coming along! Costumes are being ordered this week. List in pink Starfeet Team notebook on
lobby table for Warmups.
10. DATES TO REMEMBER:
Dec. 3 (Sat) Cookie Dough forms and funds due in by noon.
Dec. 10th (Sat) possible performance 3pm
Dec. 17th (Sat) last Starfeet rehearsals of 2011! Possible performance.
Dec. 22nd (Thur ) Costume Fees due
Dec. 22-Jan 2nd - Closed for Winter Break, Christmas and New Years!
