To The Pointe! Vivette's Dance Studio November 2011 Newsletter
PLEASE TRY TO ALWAYS READ THE NEWSLETTERS BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS. I try to
answer them all, as I know our new families have questions.
1. STATEMENTS: Attached to this newsletter is your statement for November 2011. Included are
charges for classes Sept-Nov., dancewear, private lessons and costume fees. Late fee of $15.00 was
posted to accounts not paid by Oct. 15th. Please remember that we take Mastercard, Visa and Discover
for your convenience. We just need the account number, expiration date and code.
Tuition fees are due the 1st week of classes each month, late fees apply after the 15th.
I can’t pay my studio bills if you don’t pay your tuition on time.
I have written checks or applied smaller amounts of credit to accounts for items of dancewear sold.
2, COSTUME FEES: DON’T PANIC! We have posted the costume fees for the “guesstimate” deposits.
The older dancers were posted @ $65.00 per costume. I know some of the older dancers and families
have a large amount posted on this statement. As Chelle, Rachel and I finalize our costume choices we
will make adjustments and send out updated statements. We will do our very best to lower the cost for
those older dancers who are in multiple classes. PLEASE don’t panic and feel you have to take a
dancer out of a class because of costume price. You may not know me very well, but my husband will
attest to the fact that I spend HOURS pouring over the costume books trying to find the prettiest at the
lowest prices.
We told you the amount that would be posted in the brochure in August and then post the deposit
amounts in November so that you have time to budget and plan. Many families have already been
making payments to their costume accounts.
Some people like to make a weekly small payment towards the balance, others like to wait and pay all in
full at once.
A late fee of $15.00 per costume will be assessed after December 18th. I must pay for the costumes
in full at time of ordering.
©As soon as we have the credit amounts from the Uncle Jerry Fundraiser I will post those to the costume
accounts, and send out updated statements. Quite a few of our students took advantage of this
fundraiser towards their costume fees.
Deadlines are important. We have them in place for a reason, so please adhere to them.
Dancers who have more than one costume will need a nude underliner for modesty in the dressing
rooms. No privacy there! We often have used ones turned in by those dancers who have outgrown
them. They can be ordered from www. dancewear solutions.com, or www.discountdance.com Search for
nude tank leotard, may not be called an “underliner”
Just keep it in mind.
COSTUME FEES ARE DUE BY DEC. 22nd.
3. ANNIVERSARY! Halloween, Oct. 31st marks the 7 year anniversary of our move in date! I still get a
thrill when I drive up to the lot knowing that our dancers have such a great place to take classes. I’m
working on adding some more beauty to the yard by planting iris. If anyone has a rototiller and would like
to churn up along the edge of the curbing, I’d be excited to talk to you about that.
We have been happy to let the Salina Sirens Roller Derby team use our studio to workout in. Rooms are
available for rent for family potlucks on weekend evenings also. We even had a dancers slumber party
once!
4 . HOLIDAY CLOSINGS
Wed Nov 23rd - Sunday Nov. 27th for Thanksgiving break. Classes will resume Mon Nov 28th. We do
NOT close for teacher conferences, in-service, Presidents Day etc. Like many of you, I will travel
“home” to Omaha to see my family and enjoy my mothers famous pies.
5. PERFORMANCES:
Our younger dancers in Bitty through Primary 2 performed their Halloween Dances at the Oakdale
School Carnival on Sat the 22nd, and will perform for the Residents of Drury Place on Saturday Oct.
29th at 4pm. I’m sure everyone will really enjoy our performances and the dancers will be adorable!
The check off lists are on the windows, if your dancer will not be able to attend, please cross off their
name. Standard class uniforms with pink tights please.
6 WHAT ARE WE LEARNING?
In addition to the technical aspects of dance the dancers have been working on integrating the steps
they have learned into dances.
Bitty dancers learned Monster Boogie,
Pre K and K-4, learned Trick or Treat, Happy Halloween,
K-Combo learned Punky Punkin and Boo! I Wish I Could Be A Ghost,
Primary 1 and 2 dancers are learning “The Munsters” , Adams Family, You Don’t Scare Me, and
Scooby Do.
Older levels have begun working on some of their recital dances. We have been working on strength
training at the barre in ballet, and turns and leaps both ballet and jazz classes.
Belly Dance classes have finished reviewing the tribal style dance learned in the summer and begun
working on a new dance. Bollywood has been reviewing the summer piece and has begun working on
Dum Dum Mata Hai.
Adult dance classes are working on some exciting pieces in ballet, tap and jazz.
6 members of the Belly Dance classes traveled to Wichita on Oct 20th to see a performance by the Belly
Dance Superstars and Amira’s School of Dance. It was very entertaining and we were equally entranced
by the quaint Murdock theatre.
7. CHRISTMAS DANCES
Some classes will begin learning our Christmas dances in Nov and December for younger dancers,
incorporating an increasing level of skills that they will use as they begin their recital dances in January.
Some Dancers will perform at a Nursing Home, if the flu does not strike again . Look for more
information later.
We do not do a “Christmas Recital”.
8. We will not be participating in the Winter Parade - neither Chelle or I will be in town on that date. So
dancers may enjoy watching instead of being in it.
9. DRESS CODE: Thank you for adhering to our dress code. We appreciate it so much when the
dancers come dressed to dance with their hair up in or buns or pony‘s! I notice some dancers are
getting lax about this. As the dancers are used to hearing “there is a reason for everything I do” and
that includes the dress codes. Please assist your dancer in “finding” their leotard, tights and shorts and
putting up their hair so that they are prepared to learn.
As the outside weather gets colder please remember that the studios are plenty warm, the dancers
are working hard and it is not necessary to bundle them up with extra layers underneath their leotard. A
sweater or sweatshirt that they can take off is fine. Legwarmers are stylish and serve a purpose to keep
muscles warm.
Please remind them that it is important to wear their coats when leaving the studio building even
though they are “hot“. The Lobby area is controlled by the Studio B ’s thermostat. The studio is kept
cooler for the dancers so the lobby may seem chilly to the parents. We’ll put out a space heater if
needed, if you’ll keep an eye on the little siblings please.
10. StarFeet Academy Competition Teams.
Team members are working hard on their solo’s and duets for their competitions beginning in March. We
will be ordering team warm-ups for those team members that are new or those that have outgrown
theirs, please turn in the forms I will be sending home. Hayley W. performed the short version of her
solo “La Bamba” at the Oakdale carnival.
11. ASK THE DESK. Remember, if you have questions about any studio procedure or happening, be
sure to ask the desk. If they don’t know the answer immediately, they’ll memo me and we’ll get back to
you. You may also wish to check the Note and Newsletter notebook on the lobby table.
12. Workshops
Miss V and some of our dancers will attend TOP’s Dance Directive in Wichita on Oct. 30th.
Nov 5-6th Miss V and dancer Krys Kershaw will attend a Belly Dance workshop in Manhattan.
Nov. 13 Miss V will attend the Dance Masters USA workshop. These workshops help me with my re-
certification for this year, and give me new ideas to bring back to the studio. We are the ONLY DMA
“certified by test to teach” studio in Salina.
