TO THE POINTE!
December 2009 Newsletter

1.  STATEMENTS:  Attached to this newsletter is a statement containing charges from September through
December.

2.  HOLIDAY CLOSINGS:
We hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving vacation.  Miss V visited her family in Omaha.

Dec 21 - JAN 3rd, studio closed for Winter break. Private lessons will be held Jan 2nd, regular classes resume
Jan. 5th.
Alumni reunion Sat Jan 2nd 4pm

Winter Closings:
A reminder that if USD 305 closes for WEATHER we close, we do not close for teacher in-service, or
conferences.

I will make other decisions on a case by case basis, using radio, and email to make the announcements.  Calls
to the studio will call forward to my cell phone.

We generally do not close for weather unless it’s  very, very icy.  I do appreciate calls from my out-of- town
students as some classes are small and if there is only one dancer left who is going to attend I might call that
mom and say “Stay home and be warm today”.

Please remember to check at www.ksal.com

3.  FUNDRAISERS: Items from Uncle Jerry’s have arrived were all distributed.  We distributed about $1,500 in
credits to the people that participated in the fundraiser.
The candle fundraiser items are/were due in on Monday Nov. 24th.  We close at 9:00pm.

4.  COSTUME FEES
A reminder that all costume fees must be paid by December 18th.    I have to pay in full for all costumes
ordered at the time of ordering and while one child’s fee might not be to much to cover, multiply it by 4 or 5 or
10 and it’s a big amount.  A late fee of $15.00 per costume will be charged after Dec. 18th.
If you know you are not going to need a costume because you are moving  or some other reason… tell
me this in writing please.

6.  MORE THAN YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT COSTUME ORDERING….
I know that some parents are confused by the costume “deposit” term.  To repeat what I said on an earlier
note… the fees posted are a “guesstimate” based on my 33 years of ordering experience.  I know that a child
sized  costume will usually cost about $50.00 and so I tell you that in September, and remind you by posting it
on your November statement.
I choose the songs to fit our theme and find a costume to go with it, trying my best to stay within that budget
that I have set.
I measure the dancers the during November and  December allowing for anticipated growth.
I order the costumes by Dec 31st paying the bill in full.
When I have confirmation from the companies I will put together a book of the costumes and let you see
them.  I don’t like to show ahead of time because if something happens and I can’t get that costume and have
to change to another one then everyone is all confused, disappointed and weird.
If I can’t stay in the budget and have to spend a little more I will post the difference on a subsequent
statement.  Everything goes up and costumes are no exception.  The continuing war in Iraq affects the
costume industry as the fabrics and trims are all petroleum based products and shipping of items such as
fabrics and sequins are of a lower priority than shipping of items needed overseas creating delays etc.
So… a deposit is a guesstimate, one that I usually can adhere to, occasionally I go over, occasionally I go
under.  It is not a “half-payment,” or “rental”.  The costumes are yours and your dancers.  Older dancers
sometimes share a previous years costume with another group to ease costs .

I have been working very hard on my choices and believe that I will get  all the costumes at the budgeted price
or under.

7.   PERFORMANCES: We have been Busy!
Our “littles and middles” performed Halloween Dances at  Pinnacle Park to the great enjoyment of the
residents.  We will be performing our Christmas dances after Christmas.

Primary 1 and 2 dancers performed for the Brown Mackie College Basketball half-times on Friday, Nov 13 and
Sat Nov. 14th. We have been invited back.

We performed Sat. 11/20 at See n Sell and even got a mention in the paper!

* We will perform at Kenwood View at 3:00 on Sat Dec. 5th.  If Bitty, Pre- K and Primary 1 dancers have Santa
Hats I would like for them to wear them.

8.  CHRISTMAS DANCES
Bitties :  I Love You Santa Claus
PreK :I want to get a Teddy Bear for Christmas and Here Comes Santa Claus
Beginner:  Holly Jolly Christmas, Jingle Bells
Primary 1: Up on the Housetop, Frosty the Snow Man

9.  RECITAL
Bitty - Primary 2 will begin learning their recital dances in January.  Older dancers have been integrating their
technique with combinations from their dances.

A gentle reminder that recital is Saturday May 22d
This is Memorial Day weekend.  We will have rehearsals on Friday May 1st  Jr’s and Sr’s will also have an
addition on stage rehearsal on Monday Mon May 17th from 7-9pm.  Plan your holiday accordingly.  We get
the dates the schools give us and actually this year, this is a good date as May is full of  conflicts.  We plan to
present two different programs  at 1:00 and 4:00.  Most dancers will be in only one show. Some will be in
both.
We hope to again do our Nursing Home “Tour” the next to last week of classes.

10.  BUILDING RENTAL.
The Studio is available to rent in our off hours (especially Sundays) for meetings, birthday parties, reunions,
etc.  Rental price is $10.00 per hour.  We have  tables and chairs, but for a really large group you’d need to
bring in your own chairs.   You may bring in food, (Lobby only!) but you must clean up after yourself.

11.  STARFEET
Rising Stars are working on “Little Bitty Pretty One”
Shooting Stars, our Juniors, are working on “Let’s Get Loud”
Together, Rising and Shooting Stars are working on “Hard Knock Life”.
Shining Stars, our senior team, is working on “Disturbia” and “Razzle Dazzle”
Nearly all solo’s and duets are finished and ready to go.  We are getting excited for our first competition in
February.
