TO THE POINTE!
March 2010 Newsletter
1. STATEMENTS : Attached to this newsletter is a statement containing charges from Sept through March. I have
finished making the practice cd’s for the dancers. The charge of $2.00 for these will be found under “misc”.
2. RECITAL CHANGE! This year we will have only one recital. Date is still May 22nd, time is 1:00.
3. I’m actually a little ahead of myself this year. I have the program typed, the trophy list up and the recital t-shirt list
up.
Please check all lists to see that I have correctly spelled your dancers name, that they are in all the dances they
should be and not in ones they shouldn’t be and that I have chosen the correct size t-shirt for them.
4. SPRING BREAK will be Monday March 15- Friday March 19th, No classes this week. There will be no adjustment
for this week off as that was taken into account in figuring monthly tuition.
Starfeet, I think we should meet on Sat am to go over judges comments from the March 6 and 13th competitions and
to practice for the March 27th one, please let me know if you are out of town that Sat.
5. NOTES: March begins what my husband calls “silly season”. I will be sending home notes, lots of notes, all of them
with information that for one reason or another I think is important for you to know. Read these notes, put deadline
dates on your calendar, and keep these notes in a handy place. “Another note?“ said a parent last year. Yep, I have
been known to use an entire carton of paper March-May, so read the notes. Read them before you ask staff or I a
question, as we may reply to your question with “Paragraph 5!” I know you are busy. Me, too.
6. PHOTO WEEKEND - MARK YOUR CALENDAR! Group and individual photo’s will be taken the weekend of MAY
1st & 2nd
If you have a conflict with a wedding, confirmation or 1st communion, I need to know NOW, after the schedule is
done and passed out is too late. Please give me these conflicts in writing. I will do my best to work the schedule to
accommodate these. I CANNOT work around soccer games. There are too many of them. The kids play a lot of
games, we take photo’s once. I really want all dancers to be in the photo’s. It’s not A CLASS PHOTO unless
everyone is in it! Photo packages will be available to purchase. I plan to have the photo schedule in the spring break
packet so tell me now.
7. COSTUMES: about 75%of the costumes are in, I’m waiting on a few backorders to deliver. Recital Tights will be
arriving soon, and will be sent home with your dancer when they arrive, these are part of the recital costume
package. During spring break I will go over the costume accounts and make adjustments to any necessary accounts
if I’ve gone under or over the budgeted amount. I think I’m pretty good this year, shouldn‘t be many changes!
8. UNDERLINERS: All dancers with more than one costume in the same recital should wear an underliner. The only
classes not changing costumes this year are the Bitties and Pre-K’s.
An underliner is nude color leotard that takes the place of undies under costumes and provides modesty in
changing costumes. We cannot let the dancers run down the hallways to the bathrooms by themselves to change in
privacy, and the band room allows no privacy. Don’t think that your dancer doesn’t need one and will just be able to
run to the bathroom to change. They won’t. www.curtaincallforclass.com offers an underliner (accessories:bodyliner)
for $9.99 with free shipping. You may order these directly.
Selling outgrown underliners: Turn them into us right away so that we may match them up with dancers would prefer
to purchase a used underliner. I had two and have already sold one.
9. SUMMER SCHEDLE: speaking of being ahead of myself...the summer schedule is finished and will be sent home in
the packet you receive after spring break. I will probably add a few more classes as we find out which of the older
dancers are available to teach a cheer class or yoga or others. May 26 is the deadline to sign up for summer sessions.
10. FALL SCHEDULE: I’m trying a slightly different way to figure out the fall schedule. You will receive a fall enrollment
form in your packet, please indicate the classes you’d like to take in the fall, times, etc and turn in by May 26th. I will
make our schedule from these forms. I will no longer send out registration packets in July and hope that people return
them in time to create a workable schedule. I will send out a confirmation of the schedule created from the forms
turned in and your dancers placement in that schedule. I think this will work much better, but it depends of course on
forms being turned in. Currently enrolled dancers thus get preference of schedule.
11. PERFORMANCES: We performed at Drury Place on Saturday, Feb. 20th. Many of our Starfeet Dancers were
joined by Primary 1 and Beginner ballet students. It was a great show, that delighted all who were watching.
We will be performing 5 dances for the fundraiser Dancers Against Cancer on April 25th. If you get a form about
availability for this one, please return it as soon as possible.
12. BASKETBALL PERFORMANCES: We will be performing at 4 half time games during Spring break week at the
NCJAA tournament. Always exciting to perform at the Bi-Center! I have sent home availability forms for this
performance opportunity. The deadline for this was March 1st. I don’t have forms from all dancers in these classes
yet, making the task of figuring out who is available to dance at which game more difficult. If you have not turned in a
form yet, Miss Sarah will be happy to make you another copy.
13. COMPETITONS: It will be a busy month for our Starfeet Competition Team! We have a competition March 6 in
Wichita, March 13 in Lawrence, and March 27 in Wichita. The dancers have been working extremely hard on their
technique and performances and we are ready to go perform!
14. CANDLE FUNDRAISER: I want to say thank you again to those who participated in the candle fundraiser. I was
able to send a check off to my credit card for $700.00 to pay back some of the expense incurred in the theft of the
Uncle Jerry fundraising funds. It was a great relief to be able to do so. It really touched me that my studio family
would do this for me. My accountant figures the total loss to be about $6,000. This fundraiser made a big dent in
that. Bless you! Candles are being delivered after 5pm on Mon March 1st.
15. DRESS CODE: Some students are getting a little lax with their appearance. Please remember that there are
reasons for a dress code. A reminder that jazz pants if worn by older dancers may not cover their feet. Items not to be
worn include jeans, pajama pants, and sweats that cover the feet. Hair needs to be pulled back off the face with pony’
s and bobby pins.
16. CONGRATULATIONS! Rhyanna Bruner, senior, has received a $2000.00 Dane Hanson scholarship! She will
graduate from Bennington in May.
