TO THE POINTE!
May Newsletter # 1
1. STATEMENTS: attached are statements for accounts for charges incurred September through May. Make
sure you have no outstanding balances so your dancer may participate in recital.
I have posted a charge of $12.00 for the recital shirt that will receive. I’m picking them up Monday, so Monday
students may not get theirs until next week. I have paid part of the cost of each shirt.
I have posted a charge of $15.00 to Starfeet Members for their shirts.
Please don’t give ME a payment at rehearsal or recital. I’ll put the check somewhere and we’ll never find it again!
We do take Visa, Mastercard and Discover.
2. Dad Daughter Dance - finale
We have the Dad’s shirts ready to pass out. We received quite a few late orders that did not come in on order
forms and I THINK I have all the postings correct, but I’ll be double checking those and we usually do several
statement printings in May, so if I’ve confused myself it will get fixed. I really want each dancer to dance with her
dad or a dad-person. It’s just mostly walking, no fancy footwork required. Please don’t let your daughter feel left
out because you think you can’t dance. It seriously won’t be difficult. If you didn’t order a shirt, just wear a plain
black one. Rehearsals times are on the blue page.
3. PHOTO WEEKEND:
Photo weekend will be May 1 The photo schedule was included in the recital packet printed on green paper. It’s
also on the windows and on the website on the newsletters page.
Photo’s take anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks to arrive as it’s the height of prom and recital season and the processing
labs get really backed up. We’ll let you know when they arrive! Sometimes we have them at the trophy party…but
no promises.
Dancers are to wear and bring all costumes to the studio where the photo’s will be taken. We will take a group
photo of each dance for the scrapbook. The order form for optional individuals and group photo orders is
attached to this packet. Payment is due at time of ordering.
4. SUMMER SCHEDULES -
Schedules were in the recital packet on the yellow pages. . Please turn in by May 27th. More Classes will be
added as the month goes on and teachers find out their summer schedules. I have been asked, “We’re not going
to be here all 8 weeks of the class, what do we do?”…No problem. Figure out how many weeks you will be here (8
weeks minus 2 at Grandmas and 1 at summer camp = 5) and we’ll prorate the tuition. Must be pre-paid. There
will be no refunds for additional missed classes.
Older dancers are encouraged to take the technique classes., and the dancers boot camp. .
We’ll be adding some fun dance classes like the “Tea Party Ballet” and “Tumble Time” Some maybe 3 or 4 day
camps or 1 day one or two hour classes that are great fun for both dancer and teacher!
Unlike other area studio’s, I do not require you to take summer classes in order to enroll in the fall, but it’s so good
to keep up your skills. I know that Parks n Rec offers summer classes at a steeply discounted rate, but you get
what you pay for.
5. FALL SCHEDULES: Fall classes pre-registration schedule is on the orange page that was included in the
packet . Please remember to turn them in. I will be working with Chelle on putting together the best schedule for
all our dancers and will take all forms turned in, into consideration. If you don’t turn one in, you wont’ have any say
in how the schedule works out. Please turn in by May 27th.
A 10% loyalty discount will be given to all 09-10 students re-enrolling for the 10-11 year. Yep, for the whole year.
6. SPEAKING OF COMPETITION… Starfeet Academy is the name we gave to our competition teams. We do not
hold auditions, anyone who wishes to work a little harder, take an extra class, and have lots and lots of fun as a
team member is welcome. Speak to me. All dancers are in a group numbers, some dancers also choose to do a
solo or duet. We have teams for ages 4 on up! Dancers are required to take ballet and jazz in addition to the
team classes.
We’re attending Talent on Parade in Wichita next weekend., luck is not needed because we’ve practiced until we
are ready!
Mini-Stars team dancers must have danced for 1 year and in grades K-2. ,Rising Stars are usually grades 3-5, Jr
Stars are grades 67 & 8. Sr Stars are our high school students, but each year is a little different and we arrange
the ages and abilities in the best way possible at the time.
7. DANCERS Against CANCER was held on Sunday April 25th, at 4:00 at Central. Performing from our studio
were Hard Knock Life, Dream Ballet, I Am Perfection, Hero and Strawberry Jam. A donation from proceeds will be
made to the Tammy Walker Cancer Center..
7. PERSONAL NOTE : I get a little stressed at rehearsal and recital, because I want things to go just right for the
kids, and I do not do well when pulled in several directions, such as when several people are trying to ask me
questions at the same time. I’ve will try to answer every question I can think of in the newsletters, so you really
shouldn‘t need to be asking me stuff at rehearsal and recital. The helpers will know the answers to the simple
stuff. Copies of all notes should be found on the on the website. If you really don’t know the answer, and no one
else does either, go ahead and ask me, but I’ll warn you in advance that unless I have a note in my hand you
might not get the right answer! I also apologize in advance if I’m snappy or cranky.
QUICK RECITAL ANSWERS:
A lot of these were answered in the pink hair and makeup page in the packet, but ….
WHEN IS RECITAL?
Sat May 22rd, 1:00 pm
WHEN IS REHEARSAL?
Friday May 21st. Schedule was on the white page. .
DO WE WEAR OUR COSTUMES?
To Picture Day - Yes
To Nursing Home shows -Yes
To Rehearsal -Yes, for young ones. Older dancers (Jr, Sr… free choice)
To Recital - Yes
LABEL EVERYTHING: Every little piece needs to be labeled. If you can’t write on a tag, write on a little piece of
fabric and attach it somewhere!
LABEL ALL SHOES! Parents, please take the time to do this. 10 minutes should get it done.
HOW DO WE FIX HAIR?
For most dancers, a low ponytail, no bangs, preferably with side part, over right ear, bangs pulled to side or back
and glued down - no wispy’s. (wearing bangs on stage is like wearing a hat, shadows the face.)
If your dancers hair is too short to make a pony tail, then do a half pony pulling top and sides back, no bangs.
WHERE DOES THE HAIRPIECE GO?
Right side of head, or at back of pony tail to cover hair band.
WHAT COLOR TIGHTS DO WE WEAR?
Came with your costume, pink and or tan
If you have long pants with your costume, please wear black socks or tights with your black tap shoes or black
jazz shoes as the tan ankles are very distracting!
WHAT ABOUT MAKEUP?
The stage lights are pretty bright and will wash out the dancers features, so a little blush, shadow and lipstick are
appropriate. No mascara on the little ones please, it just irritates their eyes. Older girls, like school or a date but
heavier.
WHAT ABOUT JEWELRY?
Unless it came with your costume, no.
Earrings - only studs, preferably “crystal” diamond like. There are a few pair of the flashy recital earrings on the
bulletin board, early bird gets the worm.
CAN I COME GET MY DANCER RIGHT AFTER SHE DANCES AND BRING HER TO THE AUDITORIUM?
No. The constant stream of parents up and down the aisles would be extremely rude to the rest of the audience.
Dancers will watch the show on the video feed in the band room. Dancers are expected to stay through the
finales, which they dance in.
HOW CAN I ORDER THE VIDEO?
Legleiter Video is again providing our video services. You may order the videos directly from them at recital. They
will accept cash, check and credit cards.
I do not know how they will package the two shows, but in the past there has been a significant discount when
buying both shows. Recital video’s may be purchased on DVD or video.
I do not take orders, I do not deliver orders, I have nothing to do with the production of the videos, I just hire
them.
ROSE BOUQUETS
Yes, we will again be selling a beautiful rose bouquet at both recitals for your convenience. Bouquets are $5.00
and a professionally assembled with babies breath and greenery.
INVITATION TICKETS:
Your dancer will come home one day with a page of invitation tickets. They are just that, invitations. Nothing to
sell, nothing to buy. Dancers love to invite their relatives and teachers to watch them in their recitals. We love to
have any and all attend the recitals, and the invitations are a fun way to let someone know you’d like them to come
see you.
TROPHY PARTY:
All dancers (other than adults) will receive a trophy celebrating their year of hard work and achievement. Trophy
party will be on Thursday May 27th. More details later. Please pick up your childs trophy, nothing is sadder than a
trophy still waiting to be picked up at the end of summer.
