To the Pointe
Vivette's Dance Studio November Newsletter
PLEASE READ THIS NEWSLETTER BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS. I’ve tried to answer them all.
1. STATEMENTS: Attached to this newsletter is your statement for November 2009. Included are charges
for classes Sept-Nov., dancewear, private lessons and costume fees. Late fee of $15.00 was posted to
accounts not paid by Oct. 15th. Please remember that we take Mastercard, Visa and Discover for your
convenience. We just need the account number, expiration date and code.
Tuition fees are due the 1st week of classes each month, late fees apply after the 15th.
1A, COSTUME FEES: As stated in the pink information sheet you received at registration: The costume fees
are a “Guesstimate” of costume costs. $50 for Bitty - Primary 1, $80 for Primary 2, $120 for Primary 3, $60.00
per costume for Jr and Sr dancers. Dancers who are in Pom only Ballet, Jazz , Tap were charged $50-60.00
per costume. Adjustments will be made after costumes are ordered and shipping costs determined. I am
generally able to stay within the “guesstimate” cost. Costumes come with tights needed for recital, so no
additional cost there. Sometimes I can find a bargain, sometimes I can reuse a costume from last year. I’d
sooo much rather be able to give you a credit in April or May, than have to say “oops, costume costs were
higher than I thought.”
Dancers who have more than one costume will need a nude underliner for modesty in the dressing rooms.
No privacy there! We often have used ones turned in by those dancers who have outgrown them, new ones
should be ordered from www.curtaincallforclass.com , about $9.00
© Fundraiser items were due in Oct 22, and when as we have the credit amounts from the T-shirt fundraiser,
in Nov. I will post those to the costume accounts.
COSTUME FEES ARE DUE BY DEC. 18TH.
We post them in November so that you have time to budget and plan. Many people like to make a weekly
small payment towards the balance, others like to wait and pay all in full at once.
A late fee of $15.00 per costume will be assessed after December 18th. I must pay for the costumes in full
at time of ordering.
Deadlines are important. We have them in place for a reason, so please adhere to them.
2. HOLIDAY CLOSINGS
Wed Nov 25th - Sunday Nov. 29th for Thanksgiving break. Classes will resume Mon Nov 30th . We do NOT
close for teacher conferences, in-service, Presidents Day etc. Like many of you, I will travel “home” to
Omaha to see my family and enjoy my mothers famous pies.
We DO close if USD 205 closes due to weather.
3. PERFORMANCES:
Some of our younger dancers in Bitty through Primary 1A will perform their Halloween Dancers for the
Residents of Pinnacle Care on Saturday Nov 1st at 3pm. I’m sure everyone will really enjoy our
performances and the dancers will be wonderful!

4. WHAT ARE WE LEARNING?
In addition to the technical aspects of dance the dancers have been working on integrating the steps they
have learned into dances.
Bitty dancers learned the Warm up Dance, Plie Means to Bend Your Knees, Going to the Park, How Smart I
Am, The Alligator Dance and Trick or Treat
Pre K has also learned the above dancer plus Happy Halloween and This is the Way in tap
Beginner learned Punky Punkin and are working on Garden Ballet and I Wish I Could Be A Ghost and This is
the Way in Tap
Primary 1A has been working on Dream Ballet and I’m Just Getting Started.
Primary 2 is working on Topaz in ballet, and Spectacular in tap.
Primary 1 and 2 Jazz have been learning Work it.
Belly Dance is learning Habbi Ya Einy and Hot Mama’s are working on Rich Man’s Frug.
Our new ballet syllabus is very technical and the results are beginning to show !
5. CHRISTMAS DANCES
We will begin learning some Christmas dances in Nov and December for younger dancers, incorporating an
increasing level of skills that they will use as they begin their recital dances in January.
Some Dancers will perform at Kenwood View Nursing Home on Dec. 5th at 3pm , if the flu does not keep us
out..
We do not do a “Christmas Recital”.
6. DRESS CODE: Thank you for adhering to our dress code. We appreciate it so much when the dancers
come dressed to dance with their hair up in buns or pony‘s! As the dancers are used to hearing “there is a
reason for everything I do” and that includes the dress codes. I do notice that many dancers are coming with
their hair not done. Hair should be in a bun or ponytail with nothing to distract them.
As the outside weather gets colder please remember that the studios are plenty warm, the dancers are
working hard and it is not necessary to bundle them up with extra layers underneath their leotard. A sweater
or sweatshirt that they can take off is fine. Please remind them that it is important to wear their coats when
leaving the studio building even though they are “hot“.
The Lobby area is controlled by the Studio B ’s thermostat. The studio is kept cooler for the dancers so the
lobby may seem chilly to the parents.
7. StarFeet Academy Competition Teams.
Our elementary team Rising Stars are learning a tap to “Little Bitty Pretty One, our middle school team “
Shining Stars are working on a pom to “Let‘s Get Loud;’ and working together the two teams are learning a
musical theatre entry to “Hard Knock Life“ Our Highschool team, the Shooting Stars are working on a jazz
to “Disturbia” . Enrollment in these teams are closed for the season. Some team members are working hard
on their solo’s for their first completion.
We will be ordering team warm-ups for those team members that are new or those that have outgrown theirs.
8. Openings remain in some classes, new students may enroll through Dec.
9. WHAT DOES MISS VIVETTE DO ALL DAY?
In addition to working on paperwork, choreography, music and costume choices I substitute teach nearly
every day. It’s always fun to see current and former students, many of the formers are working as teachers
and para’s.
My degree is in Elementary Education and Performing Arts so it’s a great way to combine all my skills and
fulfill a need for the community.
I will be attending a dance workshop in Wichita with some of my students on Sat, Nov 1st, and on Nov 22nd I
will attend a Dance Masters workshop in KC.
10. ASK THE DESK. Remember, if you have questions about any studio procedure or happenings, be sure
to ask the desk. If you have a question about your account, it’s better to ask them than me as I don’t handle
the day to day details. If they don’t know the answer immediately, they’ll memo me and we’ll get back to you.
You may also wish to check the Note and Newsletter notebook on the lobby table.
11. ADULT SWING A HIT! 4 couples are enjoying our intro to swing class. Look for additional classes.
COMING SOON! CHEERLEADING with Miss Jessie, a short term
(4 week or less class).
